Scripture Reference:
Numbers 16 chapter & 1 Samuel 15:23
1 Samuel 15:23, (KJV), For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
What is rebellion?
Rebellion is an uprising designed to change or overthrow an existing government or authority. It is open defiance towards authority.
What is does it mean to rebel?
To rebel is to refuse allegiance to and oppose by force an established authority.
To defy (challenge) or resist authority.
1 Samuel 15:23, (NIV), For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you as king."
The NIV exposes two strongmen that operate with the spirit of rebellion and that is the spirit of divination and the spirit of haughtiness in which pride, arrogance, self-deception and rebellion are some of the fruit on the tree of haughtiness. Let's take a look a closer look at divination.
What is divination?
Divination is seeking knowledge by supernatural means: the methods or practice of attempting to foretell the future or discovering the unknown through omens, oracles, or supernatural powers.
The spirit of divination is the strongman, some of the fruit on the tree is:
- rebellion, 1 Samuel 15:23;
- Witch, Warlock, Sorcerer - Exodus 22:18
- fortune teller-soothsayer - Micah 5:12, Isaiah 2:6
- drugs - Galatians 5:20, Rev. 9:21, 18:23, 21:8 and 22:15
- Horoscopes - Leviticus 19:26; Jeremiah 10:2,
Isaiah 47:13
What is a witch?
A witch is an evil woman with magical powers in folklore, a sorceress.
A witch is also an evil man (warlock) a witchdoctor a sorcerer and/or a shamanistic healer.
The root word for shamanistic is sham. Sham is an impostor: somebody who pretends to be something that he or she is not
Sham is something or someone false that purports to be genuine: but is fake, an imitation: not genuine and is used for deception
Shaman is a member of certain tribal societies who mediates between the visible and the spirit worlds for purposes of healing, divination and control over natural events.
As Christians Jesus is our mediator and we don't have any go running to a fortune teller, soothsayer, shaman, etc. 1 Timothy 2:5-6, For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
